Klingenberg am Main

AlpacaCamping 280

A parking spot near Klingenberg am Main, without fixed order. No signs indicate what's where; everyone finds their own spot at a distance from their neighbors. You hardly ever see the host, yet the pitch can be claimed informally. On the grounds: a wine bar. In the evening, it becomes quiet between the widely spaced campers. An honest drawback: Depending on your location, twenty-five meters of power cable isn't enough. All around, the Odenwald with its rocky landscape and Fallbach stream; to Darmstadt it's about 41 kilometers.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„Unfortunately, we didn't get to know the host. From previous reviews, it was apparent that you can simply move into your pitch. There apparently are no pitch regulations; everyone chooses a nice spot with sufficient distance from other campers.“

Sights in the area1

Felsenmeer

A slope strewn with rounded boulders in the Odenwald near Lautertal, said to have been hurled by two giants. Clambering up over the stones is the classic outing for families with children.

Margarethenschlucht

The deepest rocky gorge in the Odenwald; a narrow path climbs past several small waterfalls. Sturdy shoes pay off, and the shade makes it a good pick for a hot day.

Fallbach Wasserfall

A waterfall in the Odenwald spilling over mossy sandstone steps. It runs fullest after rain, the best time for the short detour.

Darmstadt

The nearest larger city, about 41 kilometres away, known for the Jugendstil buildings on the Mathildenhöhe. The rainy-day fallback when the Odenwald weather turns.
