AlpacaCamping 216

A meadow near Essingen, parked between the sheep — the dogs don't mind them. Fresh water is available, and the country lane for walks starts right next door. Just a few meters, and the first grapevines appear. Nights stay quiet, mornings you hear little more than the sheep in the paddock. Wine can be purchased from the host. A drive along the wine route leads to Rietburg via Edenkoben or to Wachtenburg near Wachenheim, with Karlsruhe around 30 km to the east.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„Super friendly and straightforward hosts, we were allowed to park among the adorable sheep in the meadow since my dogs were completely fine with them.
Very accommodating, fresh water available, walking paths right next door.“

Sights in the area1

Rietburg

Castle ruin above Edenkoben, reached by chairlift. From the terrace the view runs far across the Rhine plain, on clear days to the Black Forest.

Wachtenburg

Ruin above Wachenheim, right among the vines. The climb takes a good half hour; from the top you look over the wine slopes of the Mittelhaardt.

Basaltsee

A flooded quarry near Forst, now a quiet lake in the Palatinate Forest. The spot for a short hike when the vineyards get too hot.

Karlsruhe

The fan-shaped city lies about 30 km away, its streets radiating out from the palace. The town day for when the wine route falls silent.
