Wadden Sea National Park (Lower Saxony)
A UNESCO World Heritage site running the length of the coast. At low tide the mudflats lie exposed; guided mudflat walks set off from the coastal villages.
Oldenburg
The old residence town sits about 61 kilometres inland, with a castle, pedestrian streets and indoor museums — the rainy-day option when the wind picks up on the coast.
Pilsum Lighthouse
The yellow-and-red lighthouse behind the dyke, famous from an Otto film. It stands further west in East Frisia, but makes a good day trip along the coast.
