Hörselberg-Hainich

AlpacaCamping 1612

A parking spot near Hörselberg-Hainich, less than ten minutes from the A4. Close to the motorway yet peaceful, until early in the morning when the first employees of a company across the way drive onto the yard. The sanitary facilities can be used in the morning by prior arrangement. Not a place to stay long. Rather for one night in between, when the journey is getting too long. If you want to move on, you have the Hainich right in front of you and Erfurt with its old town a good forty kilometres further on.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„Located less than 10 minutes from the A4, yet peaceful, though staff from a company across the way do arrive early in the morning. We were able to use the sanitary facilities in the morning upon request.“

Sights in the area1

Hainich National Park

Old beech forest west of Erfurt, part of the Unesco World Heritage. The treetop walkway runs on planks through the canopy, a good plan for a day without a fixed goal.

Erfurt Old Town

About 41 km away, with the Krämerbrücke and the towers of the cathedral and Severi church. The go-to when the weather turns and the camper gets too small.

Drachenschlucht near Eisenach

A narrow rock gorge, at times only shoulder-wide, water running over wooden planks. Worth it in the heat, since it stays cool and damp between the walls.
