Rheinböllen

Wildlife Park Rheinböllen

A paved parking lot in front of Tierpark Rheinböllen, designed for self-sufficient campers without electricity and water connections. Arrive from seven in the evening and you'll be first in the park the next morning when the forest, lakes and animals wake up. A picnic basket with fresh coffee is available on request. You come for the animals, not for the facilities. It's about 36 kilometers to Koblenz and the Deutsches Eck. Downstream along the Rhine.1

Sights in the area1

Rheinstein Castle

A knight's castle high above the Rhine near Trechtingshausen, romantically rebuilt in the 19th century. The view from the terrace reaches far down the valley — half a day well spent.

Deutsches Eck, Koblenz

The headland in Koblenz, about 36 kilometres away, where the Moselle and Rhine meet. The huge Kaiser Wilhelm Monument towers over the confluence; the classic for a day in town.

Rhine Cycle Route

The cycle path follows the river through the Middle Rhine valley, past castles and vineyards. Mostly flat and well signed — the easy day trip once the animal park is done.
