Thuringian Tannenhof | Camping on the Tannenplantage
A farm near Geroda, in the Thuringian landscape between forest and meadows. The pitches are spacious, electricity is available. Sanitary facilities on site. If you fancy it, you can have a campfire in the evening and smell the smoke drifting through the night. During the day, paths lead into the surrounding area, on foot or by bike. It's around 27 kilometres to Jena. Further south, along the Saale, the path narrows in the Höllental between the cliffs. No big entertainment programme, but plenty of space and peace and quiet.1

Sights in the area1
Höllental
A narrow rock gorge along the Selbitz with a well-marked trail between steep walls. The right walk for half a day without the car.
Bleiloch Reservoir
Germany's largest reservoir by volume, dammed on the Saale. Swimming, boating and shoreline walks — a full day by the water.
Burgk Castle
Hilltop castle above a bend of the Saale, old rooms and a view across the valley. A worthwhile stop when the weather at the lake fails.
Jena
University town about 27 km away, overlooked by the Jenzig hill. From the top the town lies in the Saale valley; the climb takes under an hour.
