Orchard meadow at the foot of the Walberlas

The meadow orchard in Wiesenthau is located in Steigerwald, directly at the foot of Walberlas with a wide view over the landscape. In mid-April the meadow is in full bloom, and in autumn you are welcome to harvest a few apples for your own consumption. The surrounding paths are ideal for cycling and hiking tours, for example up to Ehrenbürg or to the sinter terraces of Lillach, and you can reach inns, bakeries and butchers in just a few minutes. Erlangen is only 18 kilometres away, and you will find a swimming pool just 8 kilometres away.1

The flat-topped hill above Wiesenthau, a Franconian landmark with a broad plateau. The climb pays off for the view around; on the first May weekend the Walberla festival takes place up top.

Teufelshöhle Pottenstein

A large dripstone cave in Franconian Switzerland, cool and dry to walk year-round. The rainy-day standby of the region when the trails turn grey.

Sinterterrassen der Lillach

A brook falling over mossy limestone steps in the northern part of Franconian Switzerland. A short, shady walk for hot afternoons.
