Sunny overnight accommodation in pony meadow

An enclosed pony meadow near Bohmte, in the back part of the garden, slightly off to the side between Hunteburg and Schwagstorf. The area faces south; horses from the farm sometimes graze next door. Agriculture is carried out all around, and on some days machinery putters across the fields. The path to the meadow is surfaced, though for longer motorhomes the entrance is a bit narrow. It's four kilometers to the village, where fresh rolls are available even on Sundays. The Dümmer and the Wiehengebirge are ready for day trips, and Osnabrück is about half an hour away.1

What Hinterland writes

„Sunny situated between the nature park Dümmer, Kronensee and the Varusschlacht we offer a varied but idyllically located overnight accommodation in a fenced pony meadow with southern exposure.“

Sights in the area1

Dümmer

The Dümmer is one of Lower Saxony's largest lakes, shallow and windy, so it is full of sails. The surrounding nature park is a resting place for migratory birds; the shore loop fills a whole day.

Wiehengebirge

A narrow ridge running towards the Weser. Hiking trails follow the wooded crests up top, with views over the plain. An outing for clear days.

Varus Battle near Kalkriese

This is thought to be the site of the Varus Battle. The museum in the park explains the Roman finds and pairs well with a walk across the grounds.

Osnabrück

The city of peace lies about 20 km away. Old town, cathedral and the hall of the Peace of Westphalia fill an afternoon even in the rain.
