Silberstedt

Riding stable at the oak

The pitch is located right in the middle of a riding facility in Silberstedt. Before breakfast, the peacocks are already screaming, while the chickens scratch around in between. Horses and foals can be petted, and two pigs also live on the farm. The place doesn't reveal much more than that. Those who move on will reach Schleswig with its St. Petri Cathedral and the Haithabu Viking Museum on the Schlei. It's about 56 kilometers to Kiel. Mornings: horse smell and poultry.1

Sights in the area1

Haithabu Viking Museum

Reconstructed Viking houses on the shore of the Schlei, plus a museum holding the finds of the old trading settlement. The go-to spot for a grey afternoon with kids.

Schleswig and St. Peter's Cathedral

The old cathedral town on the Schlei; inside the cathedral stands Brüggemann's carved Bordesholm altar. Half a day covers the cathedral and the Holm fishing quarter.

Kappeln

Small harbour town at the mouth of the Schlei with a bascule bridge and a historic herring weir. Excursion boats set off onto the Schlei from here, a good stop on a clear day.
