Half-timbered farm in Lüneburg Heath
A heritage-listed farmstead in the old village center of Putensen, three kilometers before Salzhausen in the Nordheide region. Eleven thousand square meters enclosed by a fieldstone wall, with ancient oaks lining the avenue of lime trees. Motorhomes are parked between the trees. Next door, Scottish Highland cattle graze in the nature conservation area. Shopping and dining can be found in Salzhausen, with the vast heathland beginning towards Pietzmoor. At the door: twenty varieties of fruit wine and more.1
What roadsurfer spots writes

Sights in the area1
Pietzmoor
A raised bog with a boardwalk over black water, deep in the Lüneburg Heath. Best in August, when the heather blooms all around; a good walk even in dull weather.
Totengrund
A basin-shaped heath valley near Wilsede, one of the best known in the Lüneburg Heath. Reached on foot or by carriage, car-free; the classic for heather season.
Hamburg
The Hanseatic city lies about 43 km away. For a day out the Outer Alster with its sailboats is enough; when it rains, a safe retreat into museums and market halls.
Luhmühlen
The eventing showground, known internationally. Even without a horse of your own it is worth a look when the big competitions run in summer.
