Camping at Landhof by the Wörnitz
A country estate in Wechingen. The pitches are located in a cul-de-sac with a turning area, so there's barely any through traffic. The tent site is tucked away behind the barn in the garden, with a view of the chicken run. An old linden tree stands in the courtyard with a seating area beneath it. A washroom and small kitchen are included, and bicycles can be locked away in the garage. It's about 300 metres to the Wörnitz, and swimming in the area is at the sports field. All around is the Nördlinger Ries: the Riespanorama-Weg trail leads over the hills, and it's fifteen kilometres to Nördlingen with its city wall.1

Nördlingen Town Wall
Nördlingen sits entirely within its medieval town wall, the only one in Germany you can still walk all the way around; the parapet looks down on the old town.
The Daniel
The tower of St. George's church in Nördlingen, locally called „Daniel“; climb the steps and on a clear day you take in the whole Ries crater.
Ries Crater Museum
The Nördlingen museum explains how a meteorite struck the Ries millions of years ago; the region's rainy-day classic, kids included.
Ries Panorama Trail
A hiking path over the hills at the rim of the crater basin, with wide views across the Ries; it starts nearby and can be walked in stages.
