Camping at Grünten

Rural pitches at the foot of the Grünten, opposite the hosts' house, between meadows, trees and a small stream. In the neighbouring barn there are young cattle, the occasional "mooo"; otherwise the chickens wander across the grass. It's one kilometre to Rettenberg, less than seven to Immenstadt and Sonthofen. The circular trail along the Galetschbach starts a five-minute walk away. If you fancy it, you can hike up to the Grünten directly from the pitch. In the evenings, just the sound of the stream.1

Sights in the area1

Grünten

The „Guardian of the Allgäu“ above the Iller valley; the climb starts right at the pitch and rewards you with a wide view over the Oberallgäu peaks.

Breitachklamm

A deep gorge near Oberstdorf crossed by the Zwingsteg footbridge; the go-to outing for a day when the weather up on the mountain won't cooperate.

Buchenegger Wasserfälle

Two falls drop into a pool near Steibis where people swim and jump in summer — the spot for hot days.

Forggensee

A large reservoir near Füssen with a loop path and excursion boats; flat shore for cycling, the mountains of the Ostallgäu behind you.
