Camping under oak trees on the farm "Hofglück

A small half-timbered farm in Verl, in the Gütersloh district. The pitch is located by the field, beneath large old oaks — space for one or two campers. No more than that. The farm is home to chickens, cats and two horses; in the mornings the organic chickens often lay a breakfast egg. At Dunja and Jürgen's place, pottery is made and vintage cars are restored. The Europa-Radweg R1 runs directly past. On foot, you can reach Holter Wald forest, walking along the Ölbach stream. The couple donates all their earnings to UNICEF.1

Sights in the area1

Holter Wald

The house forest right next door: shady footpaths along the Ölbach and flat forestry tracks for cycling. The easy outing when you just want to stretch your legs.

Europa-Radweg R1

The long-distance cycle route from Vreden to Höxter passes the farm. Riding a stage through Eastern Westphalia, you get an overnight stop with a power socket here.

Gütersloh

The nearest town, about 11 km away. A pedestrian zone, town park and botanical garden fill a grey afternoon without much of a plan.

Teutoburger Wald

The low mountain range to the northwest, with trails running over the wooded ridges; the larger territory for a full day's hike.
