Herzberg am Harz

AlpacaCamping 1296

A quiet spot in Herzberg am Harz, and the description doesn't reveal much more — so there's not much more to say here. If you're lucky, you'll catch a long sunset in the evening. Helpful suggestions for the surrounding area came up naturally during our conversation upon arrival. Tent or motorhome, either works. Beyond that, the area speaks for itself: Göttingen is about 32 kilometers away, and the Brockenbahn steam train chugs through the Oberharz in front of the cars.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

Sights in the area1

Brockenbahn

Narrow-gauge steam railway climbing from Wernigerode up to the Brocken. The trip still works on days when the summit sits in fog.

Göttingen

University town some 32 kilometres away, half-timbered houses and the Gänseliesel fountain. A path circles the Kiessee, good for an afternoon by the water.

Teufelsmauer

A strange sandstone ridge in the northern Harz; its best-known rock is called Hamburger Wappen. The ridge path is worth the day trip across the Harz.
