The North Palatinate Mountains are a low mountain range in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. They are located on the border with France and form part of the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest, also called the "Nordpfälzer Bergland". This area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. It offers many opportunities for recreation, including hiking, biking and skiing.

Heidenburg

Heidenburg is a ruined castle situated on a hill in the North Palatinate Mountains. It was built sometime between 1100 and 1200 AD, but its builder and original name are unknown. Although it is not certain what the castle was originally called, it has been called Herrenberg or Heidenburg since at least 1330 AD.

Wartekopf nature reserve

The Wartekopf nature reserve is a beautiful place to explore. It is home to many different species of animals and plants, including the rarest plant in Germany - the wild orchid. You'll also find one of the largest populations of great crested newts in Europe. There are so many things to see and do!

Quarry

The Stein-Klopper quarry was first opened in 1856 and has been in operation for over 150 years. It is one of the last quarries producing high quality sandstone used for construction purposes. The company also produces natural stone such as limestone, granite and marble.
