North Friesland is located on the North Sea coast in the west of Schleswig-Holstein, bordering Denmark. In front of the flat marshland coast stretches the Wadden Sea, which is protected as a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The region includes the islands of Sylt, Föhr, Amrum and Pellworm as well as the small halligen, which are flooded during storm tides. Vast dike landscapes, wind and the rhythm of the tides characterise the outdoor experience on this coast.
