South of Leipzig, former brown coal open-pit mines have transformed into the lakes of Neuseenland, now destinations for swimming, cycling and water sports. The Leipzig Auwald forest runs through the city like a green ribbon along rivers and canals. The Saxon metropolis itself is easily accessible via short routes. This way, water, forest and culture are all close together.

Cospudener See

The home beach of Neuseenland on the southern edge of the city — sandy beach, harbour and an asphalted cycle route.

Markkleeberg & Störmthal Lake

Two young opencast mining lakes connected by a lock; paddling is possible in the whitewater channel at the canoe park.

Leipzig Floodplain Forest

One of the largest preserved floodplain forests in Central Europe, with paddling routes on the Karl-Heine-Kanal and Weiße Elster.

Monument to the Battle of the Nations

The 91-metre monument from 1913 commemorates the Battle of the Nations in 1813 — at the top, a wide view of the city awaits you.
