The Knüll Mountains are located between the rivers Werra and Unstrut, north of Ilmenau and southeast of Eisenach. They form a natural border with Hesse on its eastern side.

There is a lot to discover. We have selected the best sights and cycling and hiking destinations for you:

Rose Valley Viaduct (24 halls)

The viaduct is one of the most beautiful and historic places in Germany. It is also one of the oldest railroad bridges in Europe that still carries trains today! You can explore 24 halls with this amazing engineering feat, as well as enjoy nature walks and bike rides on your trip.

Münzenberg castle ruins

The castle ruins have been open and accessible to the public since 1883. It's a great place to take photos, explore or just enjoy nature with your family. You can also climb one of the two castle walls to enjoy a great view of the Knüll Mountains.

House Mountain Tower

The Hausbergturm is an observation tower in the Knüll Mountains in Germany. It has a viewing platform at a height of about 230 meters and offers a view of more than 100 kilometers on a clear day. If you are looking for a great view with some history, this is your place!

Kapersburg Roman Fort

The Roman fort Kapersburg is an old Roman fortification in the Knüll Mountains. It was built around 100 AD and abandoned in the 3rd century. The site offers great views of the surrounding countryside, including the nearby town of Bad Wildungen.

Gedern Castle

Gedern Castle is an idyllic place with a baroque castle, hotel, restaurant and café. It is perfect for a short or long break. The castle has been renovated and offers comfortable rooms with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi access. Besides the beautiful surroundings, there are many recreational opportunities nearby, such as hiking trails and bike paths.

Bad Vilbel moated castle

The Bad Vilbel moated castle in the Knüll Mountains was built in the 11th or 12th century, replacing an earlier castle on the same site. It is one of only two castles that still exist from this period in Germany. In addition to its historical significance, it also offers spectacular views of Bad Vilbel and its surroundings.

Die Region hat einiges zu bieten! Neben dem Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe mit dem Herkules lädt der Edersee zu einem Ausflug ein. Der Wanderweg „Habichtswaldsteig“ führt unmittelbar am Stellplatz vorbei.  Innerhalb weniger Schritte erreichen Sie herrliche Wälder und die Felder der Region. In Laufnähe befindet sich sowohl die Burgruine Falkenstein wie auch der Hessenturm. Innerhalb von 5 Autominuten oder 15 Minuten mit dem Rad erreichen Sie Einkaufsmöglichkeiten
