The Zugspitzland - Highlights
The Zugspitzland is located in the southernmost part of Upper Bavaria around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, at the foot of the Wettersteingebirge and on the border with Austria. Towering above the region is the Zugspitze, at 2,962 meters Germany's highest mountain; at its base lies the Eibsee, a deep green lake surrounded by forest. The landscape alternates between broad valley floors, alpine meadows, and steeply rising limestone walls. For outdoor enthusiasts, it's a hiking, climbing, and winter skiing area with excellent infrastructure in the valley towns.
