Alpacas are a recent import to Mecklenburg Vorpommern, but they are quickly becoming favorites of locals who love their lush coats and gentle demeanor. The small alpaca farm, run by Elke Schmidt-Schmitz for more than 10 years, is home to about 40 animals that roam freely on 120 acres of land with plenty of grassy pastures. Visitors can even go inside a barn or two for an educational experience about these long-necked animals from South America!¹
