Deciduous Forest Pleasure

The forest was a cool place to escape the summer heat and enjoy nature in all its glory. The lush greenery, fresh air, and gentle breeze rustling through the leaves soothed my soul as I breathed deeply and recovered from the bustle of city life. The trees were tall enough for me to peer into their green canopy as they filtered light to everything below, occasionally shining small rays of sunlight down on us if we happened to catch one. The tall oak trunks made it difficult for cars larger than motorcycles or smaller RVs to drive in without going sideways into the parking bays that had been cut out here and there between patches where shrubs grew more wildly and provided shade under the canopies, much like an O1

Sights in the area1

Clemenswerth Palace

A baroque hunting lodge near Sögel, a star-shaped set of small pavilions in the forest; the area's main outing, worth an afternoon in any weather.

Hümmling

A flat geest landscape of woods, heath and old megalithic tombs; cycling and walking trails run right through it, the classic choice for a day in the saddle.

Oldenburg

The nearest larger town, about 58 kilometres away; old town, palace and state museums sit close together, good for a rainy day away from the forest.
