Lake Starnberg
Lake Starnberg, south of Munich, is a deep pre-Alpine lake with views of the Alps — a traditional summer retreat for Munich residents.
Lake Starnberg is located southwest of Munich in the Fünfseenland region and is one of Bavaria's largest and most water-rich lakes. This deep glacial tongue basin lake was formed during the Ice Age and, on clear days, is dominated by the Alpine peaks. Its shores have been a popular excursion and villa area since the 19th century; King Ludwig II died in its waters. Sailing, swimming and steamer cruises define summer at the lake.
